Wire trade route
The Drahthandelsweg is a 32 km long hiking trail between Iserlohn , Altena and Lüdenscheid in the Sauerland . It essentially follows an old trade route from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period, on which wire was transported over the mountains. During this time, the north-western Sauerland was one of the world's most important producers of wire goods, needles and other iron products.
The Iserlohn – Altena section is around 15 kilometers long and was opened in 2001 on the occasion of the 101st German Hiking Day . The second section to Lüdenscheid with approx. 18 kilometers was officially inaugurated on September 17, 2011.

From there the route leads to the southwest on small trails to the Toten Mann , an old iron ore mining site. Here, on the Iserlohn / Altena city limits, there is a Landwehr that can reach heights of up to two meters. This is followed by a steep descent down into the Lennetal to Altena.
In the city center of Altena a branch leads to the train station, otherwise the path leads over the stone bridge and Breitenhagen to the ridge between Lenne and Rahmede . The Fuelbecketalsperre can be reached via Rosmart . Then the A 45 is crossed. From the Lüdenscheider Vogelberg it goes through residential areas, past the cemetery and thephenomenta to the Lüdenscheider train station.
