Dreamville
Dreamville Records is an American music label founded by hip-hop musician J. Cole and his manager Ibrahim Hamad. It gained particular fame at the end of the 2010s through its label compilations Revenge of the Dreamers , which reached high chart positions.
history
J. Cole and Ibrahim Hamad had already registered the label in 2007, but had not used it for a long time. When Cole made his breakthrough in 2011, he released on Jay Z's Roc Nation label . It wasn't until 2013 that Dreamville Records was activated when they joined Interscope for distribution . Cole released his second studio album Born Sinner under the Dreamville label. The first two rappers they signed were Omen and Bas and for promotion they released the joint album Revenge of the Dreamers in early 2014 , which was only released digitally.
Bas' debut album Last Winter was the label's second release shortly thereafter and broke the charts for the New York rapper. The same was achieved in the same year with the third label signatory Cozz and his debut Cozz & Effect . Lute and Ari Lennox joined the label in 2015 and were featured on the second label sampler Revenge of the Dreamers II . It was released as a regular album and reached number 29 on the US album charts .
After Born Sinner , J. Cole also released his next three number one albums on his label, JID and EarthGang became other successful label members . They were also represented on the third label compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III with 18 songs and numerous guests such as DaBaby , TI and Ty Dolla Sign . The album entered the US charts at number 1 in July 2019 and was internationally successful. Among other things, it also reached number 2 in Australia and New Zealand. It went platinum in the US and was nominated for Best Rap Album award at the 2020 Grammy Awards .
