The Dreibogenbrücke is a railway viaduct for four traffic routes in the Aue district in Eschweiler in the Aachen city region . The high-speed line Cologne – Aachen runs over it , below it flows the Inde , the Eschweiler Talbahn , which has been used again by the Euregiobahn since 2004, and the district road K 15 Phönixstraße / Röher Straße , on which a tram ran until the 1960s .
The middle arch is clearly sooty due to the steam locomotive traffic .
history
The three-arch bridge was completed in 1841 by the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . The eastern pillar standing in the Inde was founded on a wedge-shaped construction made of bluestone . In World War II, this pillar was blown up in September 1944th The resulting gap was temporarily repaired by US pioneers using a steel structure. On March 7, 1945 the three-arch bridge was operational again. The viaduct was rebuilt in the old and, at the same time, present form at the end of the 1940s and put into operation on August 31, 1950. A reinforced concrete slab now supports the roadway.
Passenger traffic on the valley railway was suspended for over two decades: The last passenger train (an accumulator railcar ) ran from Aachen Hbf to Jülich on May 27, 1983; he passed the three arches bridge at 7:08 a.m. As the second of its meanwhile numerous reactivation projects, the Euregiobahn resumed passenger traffic on the valley railway on September 11, 2004 and expanded it five years later via a new line from Weisweiler via Langerwehe to Düren.
