The Dreimarkstein is a 454 meter high mountain on the border of the Viennese districts of Döbling and Hernals and the Lower Austrian cadastral community of Weidling .
The Dreimarkstein is a branch of the Vienna Woods , which is continued through the Salmannsdorfer Höhe. Most of the mountain is forested, but the Wiener Höhenstraße runs in the south, just below the summit . The name of the mountain is based on the Old High German marca (border area, border) or the Middle High German mark (border, demarcated part of the country), whereby the name of the mountain was already noted in 1818 as a three-mark stone in the land register plan . Later, the former district borders of Hernals, Döbling and Währing converged on Dreimarkstein. After the transfer of the Salmannsdorf district of Währingen to Döbling, only the borders of Hernals and Döbling meet here today, but also of Weidling.
