Dresden colorism

As Dresdner colourism a style of painting is in Dresden called artists, the late Impressionism attributable. The works influenced by modernism were created from the end of the 19th century until the 1960s. The style of the paintings, the broken colors of which were often applied with spatulas, is also known as the “quiet side of modernity”.

Through the director of the Dresden Royal Picture Gallery, Julius Huebner , the colorism of the Düsseldorf School of Painting became popular in Dresden in the second half of the 19th century. Influenced by this and other international styles of the time, yet artistically independent, a very unique painting developed in Dresden.

" As almost everywhere, everything here once began with freeing oneself from the 'heavy burden of academic classicism', according to Freitag. But this hardly resulted in extreme, radical artistic counter-positions. Rather, the elegant image culture, sensuality and an exquisite painting culture became more permanent. The art historian Fritz Löffler once spoke of the manifestation of a late style . Michael Freitag describes this local contemplation as 'one last glow in beauty.' "

An exemplary representative of Dresden colorism was Walther Beyermann , whose virtuoso control of light and a more naturalistic to factual expression stands in the field of tension to impressionistic impressions.
