Johannes Beutner (born May 6, 1890 in Cunnersdorf , Saxon Switzerland , † July 18, 1960 in Loschwitz ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Johannes Beutner was born in Cunnersdorf near Hohnstein in 1890. He spent his childhood in Rochwitz . From 1905 to 1906 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy . His teachers included Johannes Raphael Wehle and Robert Sterl . This was followed by an apprenticeship as a chemograph for autotype and color etching until 1909 . After studying again at the Dresden Art Academy from 1920 to 1924, this time with Otto Hettner and as a master student with Ludwig von Hofmann , Beutner worked as a freelancer. From 1931 Beutner was a member of the artist group Sieben and from 1932 to 1934 of the Dresden Secession in 1932 . In December 1941 his son Wolfgang († 2006) was born in Nossen. His son Ernst followed in 1943.

After the bombing of Dresden , in which a large part of his work was lost, Beutner moved to Loschwitz at Robert-Diez-Straße 12. He worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist until his death in 1960. His grave is in Dresden on the Loschwitz cemetery .

Like Josef Hegenbarth and Hans Jüchser , Beutner is considered a conservative painter in the circle of the avant-garde Dresden Secession. He mainly created portraits of women and married his long-time model Hilde Franke in his second marriage.

In addition to numerous nudes, Johannes Beutner also created landscape and portrait works. His best-known work is probably the glass mosaic column in front of Café Prague on Dresden's Altmarkt .

In the first half of 2010, the Pirna City Museum honored this lesser-known Dresden artist with a special exhibition. The artist's first large personal exhibition in a museum was made possible through a number of loans.
