Duarte Nunes

Duarte Nunes (born May 7, 1953 in Lospalos , Portuguese Timor ) is a politician from East Timor . He is a member of the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT) party. Nunes has been a member of the East Timorese national parliament since 2007 .

Career

Nunes finished the secondary school of the Nossa Senhora da Fatima seminary in Dare after the fifth grade. He worked from 1972 to 1973 as a civil servant in the Portuguese Colonial Government and from 1973 to 1975 he was Head of Programs and Procurement of the Secretariat of the Portuguese Timor Province Furriel Miliciano (1973-1975). From 1975 to 1979 Nunes fought against the Indonesian invaders as commander of the Atsabe resistance zone , second in command of the Bobonaro region and member of the Sector F North command. From 1983 to 1999 he worked as a civil servant in the Indonesian occupation regime. From 2000 to 2001 Nunes was Commissioner of the Comissão da Função Pública (CFP) under the UN administration , from 2003 to 2005 Nunes was a member of the Audit Committee (Comissão de Verificação) .

Since 2007 Nunes has been Deputy Secretary General of the CNRT and a member of the National Parliament. From 2012 to 2017 he was the deputy head of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, defense and national security (committee B behind Lurdes Maria Bessa of the Partido Democrático PD ). In addition, Nunes was President of the group of friendly parliamentarians from East Timor and Portugal and President of the Finance Council of the Serviço Nacional de Inteligência (SNI).

On May 5, 2016 Nunes was elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament. It remained so until the beginning of the new legislative period in 2017.

At number 14 on the CNRT's list, Nunes succeeded in re-entering the national parliament of East Timor as a member of the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 . Here he was a member of the Commission for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication (Commission E). and from September 2017 substitute delegate of the national group of the national parliament to the parliamentary assembly of the Community of Portuguese-speaking countries (CPLP). After the dissolution of parliament in 2018, Nunes took up position 17 in the new elections on May 12th of the Aliança para Mudança e Progresso (AMP), to which the CNRT also belongs, and moved back into parliament. He is now head of the CNRT Group and a member of the Public Finance Commission (Commission C).
