The accommodations for soldiers of the Dugway Proving Ground in Tooele County , Utah are designated as a census-designated place under the name Dugway . The base was in 1942 in the Second World War, built to chemical and biological agents to try. It is located at the southern end of the Cedar Mountains , a nest of the Basin and Range region. To the east of the base and the settlement lies the upper end of the Skull Valley , an extension of the Great Salt Desert .
The accommodations on the eastern edge and the only access road to the military base of the US Army are referred to as the English Village , to distinguish them from the German Village , which was built on the remote base in 1943 to test the effects of fire bombs on various typical house construction methods in Germany .
The settlement is located in the restricted zone of the base and is only accessible to military personnel. In 2000 it had permanent residents in 2016. There is an elementary school and a high school at the base , both of which are primarily intended for children of the military, but also take in children from the surrounding scattered settlements in Skull Valley and Terra Valley .
