Dulmatin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dulmatin (born June 6, 1970 - March 9, 2010 in Tangerang ) was an Indonesian terrorist and a leading figure in the militant group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI). He was considered one of the most wanted terrorists in Asia. Dulmatin was also known by the names Amar Usmanan , Joko Pitoyo , Joko Pitono , Abdul Matin , Pitono , Muktarmar , Djoko , and Noval . His nickname was Genius . Dulmatin was a Javanese Arab.

Dulmatin received his training in the al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan . It is believed that he was promoted by Azahari bin Husin and thus became an expert in the fields of electronics and bomb construction. He participated in the attack on the Philippine ambassador in Jakarta on August 1, 2000. Dulmatin made the time fuses for the Christmas 2000 bombings on 38 churches in Indonesia , which killed 19 people. He was one of the masterminds behind the 2002 Bali attack , in which 202 people died. Working with Azahari, Dulmatin helped build the car bombs for the attack. Allegedly he detonated one of the bombs remotely with a cell phone.

The FBI had up to 10 million reward dollars tendered to him.

It is believed that he had been in contact with the Abu Sajaf group in the Philippines since 2003, passing on knowledge of explosives and training other militants. Based on radio messages and educational work, it is suspected that Dulmatin was wounded in a shooting with the Philippine military in Jolo in January 2007 . In May 2007, Dulmatin again escaped arrest by escaping from a safe house in Simunul hours before the Filipino police and military were on the scene. Authorities found four children who are believed to be Dulmatin's children.

He is said to have been most recently in the south of the Philippines. In the run-up to the visit of the American President Barack Obama , there were raids on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 , including in an Internet café in Tangerang where Dulmatin was currently staying. There was an exchange of fire with the security forces in which Dulmatin was killed. His trail was discovered through the testimony of several terror suspects arrested in February 2010 in the province of Aceh .
