history
The history of Dundrennan is closely linked to the Dundrennan Monastery . David I founded the monastery in 1142 together with Fergus von Galloway . After the Scottish Reformation, the complex was abandoned and fell into disrepair. Stone material from the monastery ruins was used to build numerous houses in Dundrennan. Today's Dundrennan Parish Church dates back to 1865. The local elementary school closed in 2004.
As part of the 1961 census survey, Dundrennan had 85 inhabitants.
traffic
The A711 , which connects the coastal towns from Dumfries , forms the main road from Dundrennan. In the west it leads through Kirkcudbright to merge north of Tongland in the A75 ( Stranraer - Gretna Green ).
