Durable (DURABLE Hunke & Jochheim GmbH & Co. KG) is an office supplies manufacturer based in Iserlohn ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

With around 700 employees, the company achieved a worldwide turnover of around 95 million euros in 2015 and, in addition to the distribution center in Iserlohn- Sümmern, has production sites in Gotha , Kamen - Methler and Stettin . Sales companies are located in the USA, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Austria, Great Britain, Belgium and Russia.

Durable is certified with the international quality standard ISO 9001 and the international environmental management standard ISO 14001 .

history

The company was founded in 1920 by Karl Wilhelm Hunke and Jochheim for the production of tabs of metal and with the company "Hunke & Jochheim" as a general partnership registered in the commercial register. By 1930 the company was already employing around 50 people.

The company, which was destroyed in World War II, was rebuilt from 1945 onwards. With 30 employees at the beginning, the production of the first plastic registers began a few years later. In 1955, Hunke & Jochheim acquired a plot of around 6,000 square meters in Iserlohn on Westfalenstrasse, the company's current headquarters. further production areas are being created in addition to those in downtown Iserlohn. The company expanded and in 1962 was able to expand the premises on Westfalenstrasse by a further 2,000 square meters and in 1963 to acquire a further manufacturing facility on an industrial site of around 16,000 square meters in Kamen-Methler. The operating area in Iserlohn's city center (Wilhelmstrasse) was sold. In the years that followed, Durable acquired additional premises at the Iserlohn and Kamen-Methler sites.

In 1980 the first foreign subsidiaries were founded in England and Sweden, others followed in 1991 in the Netherlands, 1997 in Belgium and 2000 in France. In 2001 Durable founded subsidiaries in Austria and the USA.

The premises for production and the head office in Iserlohn were expanded again in 1981. Production and administration areas now comprised 4,300 square meters. In 1993 Durable acquired a production facility in Gotha. In the same year, a modern distribution center with a high-bay warehouse was built in Iserlohn-Sümmern.

The change of the legal form to a limited partnership with a simultaneous change of the company to "Durable Hunke & Jochheim GmbH & Co. Kommanditgesellschaft" followed in 1988. In 2003 the company was represented for the first time with its own stand at the Paperworld trade fair in China. In the following years, additional locations were added in Stettin (Poland) and Coevorden (Netherlands).

Managing directors

The management consists of Horst-Werner Maier-Hunke and Matthias Laue.

Horst-Werner Maier-Hunke was President of the Association of the Metal and Electrical Industry in North Rhine-Westphalia and Vice President of Gesamtmetall from 2006 to 2016 . In July 2010 Maier-Hunke received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .

DURABLE

In 1959, Durable invented and patented the DURACLIP clip-on folder, which enables documents to be filed without holes . Under the Durable brand, the company sells a wide range of office organization and presentation aids, including a. Orientation and presentation systems, office furnishings, name badges, badge holders and desk and computer accessories.

LUCTRA

In 2015, Durable introduced an innovative lighting system with a biological lighting effect under the LUCTRA brand. The range consists of table, floor and mobile lights in various designs. Production takes place in the LUCTRA factory within the existing durable production facility in Kamen-Methler.
