Manfred Durniok became particularly well known as a jury member for the 1970 Berlinale . Durniok apologized to the jury chairman, the Americans George Stevens , of america critical for the performance of Vietnam film ok by Michael Verhoeven at the Berlinale. Der Spiegel wrote: “There was a heated debate in the jury about this gesture, and the majority decided to 'neutralize' Ok . Although the film had been unanimously invited to the competition by the selection committee, the jury wanted to have it checked again whether it really contributed to the “Understanding and Friendship among Nations” (Berlinale regulations). Until this question has been clarified, OK should no longer be used. With this resolution, the jury itself violated the festival statute: It was only engaged for artistic assessment, but was now 'on the course of a censor'. ”The festival then burst. Durniok then admitted that he had deliberately fueled the mood in the jury's dispute through provocations.

Since the 1970s, Durniok mainly worked for television . His company Manfred Durniok Filmproduktion produced, among other things, several episodes of the television series Polizeiruf 110 and several Jules Verne films, such as Reise um die Erde in 80 Tage (1998) and Die Reise zum Mond (1999). The internationally successful films for which Durniok also personally recorded as a producer, such as Mephisto (1981) (among other awards for the 1982 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film ) and Colonel Redl (nominated for the Oscar and Golden Globe in the categories of best foreign language film ) by István Szabó , made him known.
