Dylan James Tombides (born March 8, 1994 in Perth , Australia , † April 18, 2014 in London , England ) was an Australian football player in the position of striker. He played for West Ham United and for the Australian U-17 and U-23 teams .
Before moving to the Premier League, Tombides played for youth clubs in his native Perth and in Hong Kong. He made his debut in the professional team of West Ham United on September 25, 2012 in the League Cup in the encounter against Wigan Athletic , when he came on in the 84th minute for Gary O'Neil .
He died on April 18, 2014 of testicular cancer , which he had suffered from since 2011. In the course of the illness, Tombides got involved in the cancer organization One for the Boys , which wants to raise awareness of cancer in men and whose prominent supporters include the actor Samuel L. Jackson , the snooker player Jimmy White and the singer Peter André . In memory of Tombides, West Ham United will not reassign the number 38.
