Eßlingen is a district of the municipality of Solnhofen in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Middle Franconia .

Geographical location

The village lies on the Altmühl . About half a kilometer north of the village is the stone formation Twelve Apostles , about half a kilometer northwest of the Salbuck ( 488  m above sea  level ). The state road 2230 leading to Solnhofen or after Altendorf . A community road leads to Hochholz .

history

In the geographical statistical-topographical lexicon of Franconia (1800) the place is described as follows:

“Eßlingen, commonly Eßling, Eichstättischer hamlet of 10 subjects, partly Catholic, partly Protestant, of which 6 belong to the Ansbach administration office in Solnhofen, 4 but 4 belong to the Eichstätt administration and box office Dollnstein, is 1 hour below Solnhofen on the Ansbach border , and close to the Altmühl, the Ansbach Fraischstein stands by the bridge over this river.
The fishing water there occurs in the instrument dated 1309, in which Count Ludwig von Oettingen after the last [Sp. 91] Count von Hirschberg Tode in the name of his daughter Sophie melten Grafens von Hirschberg's widow made a claim. "

With the community edict (19th century), Eßlingen became a politically independent community to which the place Hochholz belonged. On July 1, 1971, it was incorporated into Solnhofen.
