Group stage

The field of participants was divided into two groups (A and B) each with 2 subgroups (1 and 2) Basic round: Each team plays 33 games in a round-trip round within its group and the other group + one round in its sub-round. The exact procedure in subgroup a2 is currently (beginning of Sep. 2016) not yet described in EBJL rule book 16/17.

Play-offs

The top 4 in each group are qualified for the play-offs. The group winners have the right to pick and can choose between the 3rd and 4th placed in their group. Quarter- and semi-finals are played in a best-of-three series, the final for the first time in a best-of-five series.

Austrian U18 champion

Austrian U18 champions cannot become an international (= non-Austrian) club or an association with the official academy status of the ÖEHV. Should no Austrian club win the EBJL final, the championship title will be played separately in a best-of-three series between the two Austrian clubs with the highest points in the basic round . Eligible to play for the Austrian U18 title are: EV VSV, EC KAC, EHC Linz, Vienna Capitals, SG EK Zell am See / UHC-Lienz
