ERTMS Users Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ERTMS Users Group is an association of European rail operators . The aim is to jointly develop ERTMS and bring it to practical readiness.

In August 1995 the German, French and Italian railways merged to form the ERTMS Users Group in order to jointly implement pilot systems. These were existing sections such as Berlin-Jüterbog-Halle / Leipzig ( German Unity Transport Project No. 8 ), a TGV route, a suburban line near Paris and a suburban line near Florence. For the time being, these routes were only used for test purposes with ETCS vehicles. The Italian pilot route (ERTMS Level 2) was presented to a larger group of visitors at an international conference at the end of March 2001.

The Jüterbog – Halle / Leipzig sections (ERTMS Level 2) were released for commercial passenger operations on December 5, 2005.

At the end of 2006, in addition to the three founding members, there were four other European railway infrastructure operators ( ProRail , Network Rail , Adif and Banverket ).

The ERTMS Users Group should not be confused with UNISIG , in which the manufacturers have come together and not the railway operators.
