ESET Internet Security is security software from the Slovak company ESET for Windows operating systems in the home. The software is based on the antivirus program NOD32 Antivirus . The corresponding variant for Apple computers is called ESET Cyber Security Pro ; In the business sector, the program acts as ESET Endpoint Security .
history
On November 5, 2007 ESET first released version 3.0 of Smart Security in order to be able to compete with security packages from other manufacturers such as McAfee , Symantec , AVG and Kaspersky . ESET Smart Security includes the antivirus program NOD32 Antivirus as well as an anti- spam function and a 2-way firewall with the common anti- malware features of NOD32.
On March 2, 2009, version 4.0 was released with an additional integrated ESET SysInspector . This includes support for Mozilla Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail , a new self-protection module and an updated firewall module. Furthermore, were ESET SysRescue and an assistant to create boot CDs and USB flash drives released.
Initial compatibility problems between ESET Smart Security 4.0 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 were resolved by an update.
Version 5.0 was released as a beta version on May 5, 2011 . It had additional parental control, a cloud-based data reputation service, a gamer mode, IPS and improvements to the anti-spam, firewall and removable data media control functions. On June 14, 2011, ESET released an initial product candidate for ESET Smart Security version 5.0. On September 14, 2011, the final version of Smart Security 5.0 was finally released.
Version 6.0 was released on January 15, 2013. This offers anti- phishing protection as well as protection against new, unknown viruses through generic signatures.
ESET Smart Security version 7 was released on October 16, 2013 and included a. an anti-theft feature called Anti-Theft. Version 8.0 has been available since October 2, 2014 and for the first time included a botnet blocker.
Version 9 has been officially available since October 13, 2015. This includes u. a. a mode for secure online banking and a visually revised graphical user interface.
In 2016, version 10 was renamed from “ESET Smart Security” to “ESET Internet Security”.

In a test by Dennis Technology Labs in November 2014, ESET Smart Security achieved the highest score for protection with a 100% hit rate. In a performance test by AV-Comparatives , ESET achieved the level "Advanced +" and came off as the product with the lowest system slowdown among all tested products. In November 2014, AV-Test tested whether and how well protection and antivirus software use standardized techniques such as DEP and ASLR to protect the program itself. In this test, ESET was the only home user solution to achieve 100% in both the 32-bit and the 64-bit version. The PC Magazine evaluated the Version 8 in a comparative test of several security suites from December 2014, with an overall rating of very good . Computer Bild rated the 2019 version in a comparison of eight security suites with only "satisfactory" (grade 2.9) in 7th place out of 8.
ESET Cyber Security Pro , the Internet security variant for Mac OS X , achieved a 100 percent hit rate in tests by AV-Comparatives in both 2014 and 2015 when it came to detecting malware for Mac OS and Windows.
