The East Cameron Township is a township in Northumberland County in Pennsylvania , United States . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , the township had 748 residents, up from 686 residents in 2000.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of ​​30.7 km 2 , excluding land. The neighboring townships are (clockwise) the Coal Township to the north and the Mount Carmel Township to the east, the Eldred Township in Schuylkill County to the southeast , the Upper Mahanoy Township in the south and the West Cameron Township in the west.

The township area is drained by Mahanoy Creek . The natural boundaries of the township are Mahanoy Mountain in the north and Line Mountain in the south, the slopes of which are largely part of State Game Lands Number 84 .

In the far east of the township is the street village of Helfenstein ; it is partly in neighboring Schuylkill County. Gowen City stretches along Upper Road on either side of Pennsylvania Route 125, and further west along Upper Road is the street village of Point Breeze .

Demographics

At the time of the United States Census 2000, East Cameron Township was inhabited by 686 people. The population density was 22.3 people per km 2 . There were 301 housing units, an average of 9.8 per km 2 . The population in East Cameron Township was 99.56% White , 0% Black or African American , 0.29% Native American , 0.15% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0% said they were racial , and 0 % % named two or more races. 1.31% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The residents of East Cameron Townships were distributed across 267 households out of which 29.2% had children under the age of 18. 69.7% of households were married, 6.0% had a female head of household without a husband, and 21.0% were not families. 18.7% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 9.0% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.91 people.
