Mount Carmel Township is a township in Northumberland County , Pennsylvania , in the United States . It was formed in 1854 from part of the Coal Township and is named after Mount Carmel in Palestine . In it are the boroughs of Mount Carmel , Kulpmont and Marion Heights . At the time of the United States Census 2010 there were 3,139 people living here, compared to 2701 inhabitants in 2000.

Mount Carmel Township is the easternmost township in Northumberland County. It is heavily molded from mining. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of ​​57.0 km 2 , of which 56.5 km 2 are land and 0.5 km 2 (= 0.82%) are water.

The natural boundaries of the township are Mahanoy Mountain to the south and Roaring Creek to the north . This runs in a valley between Big Mountain and Little Mountain and forms in the area the county boundary to Columbia County with Cleveland Township .
