The Upper Mahanoy Township is a township in Northumberland County , Pennsylvania , United States . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , the township had 796 residents, compared to 599 in the 2000 Census.
geography
According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 60.5 km², all of which is land. It has a wedge-shaped outline and lies on the southern county boundary of Northumberland County. Its natural limit in the north is Line Mountain in the north . There is no pronounced natural border to the south, but here the catchment area of the Schwaben Creek , which gradually waters the northern part of the townships, merges into the catchment area of the Little Mahantago Creek , in the extreme southwest the township is drained by its tributary Snow Creek .
Administratively, the Upper Mahanoy Township borders in the north on the West and East Cameron Township and in the south borders the Schuylkill County with the Eldred Township and to the west of it the Mahantago Township . In the west, too, the Upper Mahanoy Township borders two neighboring townships, with the Jordan Township south of the east end of Hooflander Mountain and the Washington Township north of it.
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Upper Mahanoy Township was inhabited by 599 people. The population density was 9.9 people per km ². There were 247 housing units at an average of 4.1 per km². The population of Upper Mahanoy Townships was 99.67% white , 0.17% black or African American , 0% Native American , 0% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0% said they belonged to other ethnic groups and 0.17% named two or more ethnicities. 0.67% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any ethnic group.
The residents of Upper Mahanoy Townships were distributed among 171 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18. 67.7% of households were married, 5.8% had a female head of the household without a husband and 23.3% were not families. 18.8% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 11.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.06.
