The Ebenöde is a mountain with a height of 237.1 m above sea level. NN in Vlotho . The mountain, located directly on the Weser , dominates the northern city panorama together with the Steinberg and the Amtshausberg . The mountain is located in the north of the city of Vlotho and in the north of the district Vlotho in the border area of Vlotho to the former farmers Oberbecksen, a district of Bad Oeynhausen. Naturally, it belongs to the Weser Uplands and the Lipper Mountains . To the south-east lie the Amtshausberg as foothills of the Ebenöde and to the north-west the Steinberg.
At the time of Vlotho Castle , which was built by Heinrich von Oldenburg around 1250 , the Ebenöde was used for agricultural purposes. To the west of the castle ruins is an area called " Schwedenschanze " with remains of ramparts. According to experts, the early medieval hill fort has nothing to do with the Swedes. Excavations have not yet taken place, so many questions are still waiting for answers.
Grossmann remarks: The ... Ebenöde was bought after the Second World War [from Vlotho] by the Herford district, which had 27 hectares afforested here from 1951 to 1954. This created one of the recreation areas in the district. In August 1947 the foundation stone was laid for the district's own children's health home ... Vlotho-Ebenöde . It served as a replacement for what was no longer accessible on the island of Rügen in the former Soviet occupation zone.
The children's health home was closed around 1995 ; a privately operated social therapeutic nursing facility for elderly people, the Ebenöde care center , took over the premises and buildings. In 2007 the carrier changed. The facility for the care of elderly people with limited everyday skills , as it is described, is known today as the Vlotho Castle Monastery . In the past, the children's health home was briefly referred to as “the Ebenöde”, but today this also applies to the care center under its current sponsorship.
