Eberhard Klitzsch

Hans Eberhard Klitzsch (born August 18, 1933 in Remda , Thuringia ; † September 20, 2018 in Berlin ) was a German geologist .

Life

Klitzsch studied geology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and at the Free University of Berlin . After receiving his doctorate in 1958, Eberhard Klitzsch went into business as a petroleum geologist and worked for over nine years in petroleum exploration in North Africa.

In 1967 he moved to the Technical University of Berlin , where he was involved as a research assistant in the development of petroleum geology, photogeology and hydrogeology . In 1969 he completed his habilitation on the structural history of the Sahara. In 1970 he was appointed professor of geology at the TU Berlin. In 1981 Eberhard Klitzsch was elected spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 69 at the Technical University of Berlin “Geoscientific Problems in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas” and held this position until 1995. On September 30, 1998, Klitzsch retired.

The research focus for international geosystem analysis Geosys emerged from the special research area of ​​the German Research Foundation . He endeavored to convey geology in popular science.

Eberhard Klitzsch died four weeks before his 85th birthday on September 20, 2018 in Berlin. The memorial service took place on October 26, 2018 in the chapel of the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend . The final resting place of Eberhard Klitzsch is a family grave in the cemetery.
