Eberhard Weise (born November 28, 1934 in Dresden ) is a German jazz musician (piano, trombone, composition, arrangement) and orchestra conductor.

Live and act

After training at the technical college for music in Görlitz and at the conservatory in Schwerin , Weise initially worked as a trombonist at the theater in Güstrow from 1954 to 1957 , but also directed the Eberhard-Weise combo. Together with schoolmates from Görlitz - Richard Bergmann, Wolf Hudalla, Günter Kloß - and other musicians such as Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky , he founded his orchestra as a big band for modern jazz in 1957 (with the support of the jazz-loving cultural functionary Günter Rosal) . This gave the Eberhard Weise orchestra a special place in the music of the GDR. It played in a changing line-up, u. a. with Klaus Lenz , until 1961. At the turn of the year 1962, Weise dissolved the ensemble for economic reasons. Some of the musicians continued in the Manfred Ludwig Sextet .

Weise went to the renowned Leipzig Radio Dance Orchestra . There he initially worked as a pianist and chief ranger; in addition, he headed the radio GDR combo (until 1966) and played in Friedhelm Schönfeld's Berlin-Leipzig combo and then with the all-star cast of the GDR radio Studio IV (with Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky , Joachim Graswurm , Hubert Katzenbeier , Klaus Koch , Wolfgang Winkler , with whom there were also appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival and 1968 at the Jazz Jamboree Warsaw ). But he also played with Uschi Brüning . In 1989, Weise then succeeded Walter Eichenberg as chief conductor of the Leipziger Rundfunk-Tanzorchester, which was "wound up" in 1992 for economic reasons. Between 1993 and 2001 he directed the Youth Jazz Orchestra of Saxony. He is currently the leader of the German Philharmonic Big Band , a project of jazz-interested musicians of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and other symphony orchestras. In 2004 he also appeared with a nonet to perform his own compositions and arrangements.

Weise wrote more than eight hundred jazz and dance music tracks. He also wrote more than seventy pieces of music for animated films .
