Eberhard van der Laan

Eberhard Edzard van der Laan (born June 28, 1955 in Leiden ; † October 5, 2017 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch lawyer and politician of the Partij van de Arbeid (PvdA).

Life

From November 14, 2008 to February 23, 2010, he was Minister without Portfolio for Construction and Integration in the Balkenende IV cabinet as the successor to the resigned party member Ella Vogelaar . Since July 7, 2010 he has been mayor of the city of Amsterdam .

On September 18, 2017, Mayor van der Laan announced his resignation due to health problems in an open letter to the Amsterdam residents.

Van der Laan died on October 5, 2017 of complications from lung cancer .
