Echeveria laui is a species of the genus Echeveria ( Echeveria ) in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae). The specific epithet laui honors the German missionary and plant collector Alfred Bernhard Lau .

description

Echeveria laui usually grows without branches. Those with persistent, dry bottom foliage leaves occupy shoots are 5 to 10 centimeters long and reach diameter of about 1.5 centimeters. The leaf rosette has a diameter of 10 to 12 centimeters. At the tip of the obovate and broadly blunt foliage is a tiny, attached tip. The leaf blade is 5 to 8.5 inches long, 3 to 4.5 inches wide and 6 to 8 millimeters thick. Their almost flat to slightly concave surface is strongly colored white- glaciers or occasionally pinkish-reddish glaciers.

The 6 to 10 centimeter long inflorescence has five to seven strongly glauke bracts and is designed as a wrap with nine to 17 flowers . The flower stalk is 2 to 4 millimeters long. The ascending, very unequal sepals of the flowers are 3 to 18 millimeters long. The red frosted corolla is pentagonal-pyramidal in shape and 13 to 16 millimeters long.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.

Distribution and systematics

Echeveria laui is distributed in the Mexican state of Oaxaca in one of the side valleys of the Río Salado-Quiotepec at altitudes of about 500 meters.

It was first described in 1976 by Reid Venable Moran and Jorge Meyrán .

use

This species has not been in culture for long because of its late discovery. Due to its noticeably frosted gray-blue leaf rosettes, it is enjoying increasing popularity as an ornamental plant .
