Eriosyce odieri is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Eriosyce odieri grows geophytically with somewhat spherical to spherical, brownish to almost gray shoots and reaches a diameter of 2 to 6 centimeters. The root is a conical taproot . The ribs are completely divided into cusps . The areoles on it are somewhat sunken. The thorns , which vary in thickness and are 2 to 5 millimeters long, lie on the surface of the shoot. Most of them are pronounced as radial spines, sometimes central spines are also present.

The funnel-shaped flowers are light yellow to light red and appear from young areoles. They are 3 to 4 centimeters long and have the same diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with whitish wool. The elongated fruits are up to 3 inches long and open with a basal pore.

It was first described as Echinocactus odieri in 1850 by Charles Lemaire in Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dycks Cacteae in horto Dyckensi cultae anno 1849 . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .

The following subspecies and varieties are distinguished:

  • Eriosyce odieri subsp. fulva (F.Ritter) Katt.
  • Eriosyce odieri subsp. glabrescens (F.Ritter) Katt.
  • Eriosyce odieri subsp. odieri
  • Eriosyce odieri var. Monte-amargensis Katt.

A synonym for the subspecies Eriosyce odieri subsp. fulva is Echinocactus reichei K.Schum. (1903).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
