Echinopsis camarguensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet camarguensis refers to the occurrence of the species in Camargo .
description
Echinopsis camarguensis grows as a shrub with columnar, cylindrical and light green shoots , which often consist of several curved, ascending branches and can reach heights of up to 50 centimeters. There are eleven to fifteen very low ribs . The needle-like thorns emerging from the areoles are yellow to grayish. The two to three (rarely up to five) central spines have a length of up to 5 centimeters. The twelve to 13 radiating radial spines are up to 3 centimeters long.
The funnel-shaped, white flowers open at night. They become 18 to 20 centimeters long. The spherical to egg-shaped fruits have a diameter of up to 2 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinopsis camarguensis is distributed in the Bolivian departments of Chuquisaca , Potosí and Tarija at altitudes of 2700 meters.
The first description as Trichocereus camarguensis by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1953. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .
Synonyms are Trichocereus caulescens F.Ritter (1966), Echinopsis caulescens (F.Ritter) Lowry (2002) and Trichocereus cajasensis F.Ritter (1980, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 36.1).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
