Echinopsis cuzcoensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet cuzcoensis refers to the occurrence of the species near the Peruvian city of Cusco .
description
Echinopsis cuzcoensis grows tree-shaped with numerous, somewhat spreading branches and reaches heights of growth of 5 to 6 meters. The cylindrical shoots are green. There are seven to eight low and rounded ribs . The areoles on them are 1 to 1.5 centimeters apart. From them arise about twelve very strong, stiff thorns that are swollen at their base. The thorns have a length of up to 7 centimeters.
The funnel-shaped, white flowers are fragrant. They are open day and night. The flowers are 12 to 14 inches long.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinopsis cuzcoensis is common in the Peruvian region of Cusco at altitudes of 3100 to 3600 meters.
The first description as Trichocereus cuzcoensis by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose was published in 1920. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
