Thomas Klimann

Thomas Klimann (born September 6, 1876 in Klagenfurt ; † October 25, 1942 there ) was an Austrian soldier and politician ( GDVP ).

Life

After attending elementary school and high school , Thomas Klimann joined the Joint Army of Austria-Hungary as a one-year volunteer in 1894 , where he was assigned to regiment number 17 as an infantryman . Klimann became a professional soldier in 1896, was promoted to major in 1918 and colonel in 1922 .

In the Carinthian defensive battle , in which he was involved in 1919, Klimann was the deputy commander of the state commander, Arthur Lemisch . He was also one of the organizers of the referendum in Carinthia in 1920 , in which almost 60 percent of the voters voted for the Slovenian-speaking areas of Carinthia to remain with German Austria . In the 1920s, Klimann played a key role in the development of the Carinthian Heritage Protection Association.

Thomas Klimann's political career led him in November 1923 as a member of his party, the GDVP, to the National Council ( second and third legislative period ). As a member of the Foreign Committee, he represented Austria at various economic conferences in Europe , but also came to Rio de Janeiro . After seven years as a member of the National Council, he left the first chamber of parliament in October 1930.

After a two-year break, Klimann moved to the second Austrian Chamber of Parliament in February 1932 as a Federal Councilor ( fourth legislative period ), where he worked until May 1934.

He died in 1942 at the age of 66. His grave is preserved by the city of Klagenfurt and is located at the Annabichl cemetery .
