Echinopsis spinibarbis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet spinibarbis is derived from the Latin words spina for 'thorn' and barba for 'beard' and refers to the dense thorns of the species.

Echinopsis spinibarbis grows branching and reaches heights of up to 4 meters. The shoots reach a diameter of up to 7.5 centimeters. There are twelve to thirteen  ribs . About 20 thorns arise from the  areoles on them . The central spines are up to 15 centimeters long. The radial spines have a length of up to 1.8 centimeters.

The flowers are white to pink and 3 to 6 inches long. Your flower tube is hairy pale yellowish brown. The light brown hairy fruits are about 7 centimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis spinibarbis is widespread in central Chile .

The first description as Cereus spinibarbis by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer was published in 1837. Adriana E. Hoffmann placed the species in 1989 in the genus Echinopsis .

Further nomenclature synonyms are Echinocereus spinibarbis (Otto ex Pfeiffer) K.Schum. (1895), Eulychnia spinibarbis (Otto ex Pfeiffer) Britton & Rose (1920) and Trichocereus spinibarbis (Otto ex Pfeiffer) F.Ritter (1965).

The use of the name Echinopsis spinibarbis is problematic. The species was originally described without the flowers and fruits being known. It was used for Eulychnia acida and Eulychnia breviflora as well as for plants related to Echinopsis chiloensis .
