Echinopsis volliana is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet Volliana honors the German (?) - Brazilian botanist Otto Voll (1884–1958).
description
Echinopsis volliana grows shrubby and branched from the base with several upright branches . The cylindrical, glossy light green shoots reach a diameter of up to 10 centimeters. There are about 13 rounded ribs . The areoles on them are up to 2.5 centimeters apart. Amber-colored thorns spring from them . The single central spine is up to 2.5 centimeters long. The eight to eleven radiant radial spines are thin and piercing. They have a length of up to 0.7 centimeters.
The funnel-shaped, white flowers appear near the shoot tips. They are up to 13 inches long. The elongated fruits are hairy.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinopsis volliana is widespread in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba at altitudes of 2500 to 3000 meters.
The first description as Trichocereus vollianus by Curt Backeberg was published in 1936. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .
The following taxa were included as a synonym in the species: Trichocereus vollianus var. Rubrispinus Backeb. (1936) and Echinopsis volliana var. Rubrispina (Backeb.) H. Friedrich & GDRowley (1974).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
