Echolot is a collaboration album by the two rappers Albino and Nesti , which was released in February 2005 under the project name Syndikat .

Emergence

In 1997 Albino and Nesti met for the first time in the Piemont Studios in Heidelberg. Nesti had stopped by to record the 50MCs tape , while Albino was working on his first record, the EP Lyrischer Resistance , at the same time . Since they got along well, they stayed in touch. As a result, six joint pieces were created, each of which appeared on Nesti's debut album The Other Side , Albino's solo albums Veruscht & Verschleiert and Vogelfrei as well as on the single Heartcore , which was only released as a record .

The piece Retter in der Not , which appeared on Albino's debut album Covered Up & Veiled in 2000 , explicitly contained the note Intro. the syndicate . Two years later the idea arose to release a joint album under the project name Syndikat , which was put into practice in early 2005.

layout

Both the cover and the booklet are only available in black and white. The former, whose artwork is by Kim J. Köster, is divided into a black left and a white right half. The left half contains a white, downward-facing handprint that is vaguely reminiscent of a skull. Above it is written SYNDiKAT in white "incised" letters . In the white half there is a black handprint pointing upwards, above it the writing ECHOLOT in black letters .

Below is typewritten - at first in the left half - NESTI, ALBINO , next to it - already in the right half - 12 fingers Dan, DJ Mike, B-Base, Nemo, Ole, Schall .

Texts and style

Like all previous albums by the two rappers, Echolot is stylistically assigned to Conscious Rap . Musically, the work is dark and melancholy, similar to Albino's previous album Vogelfrei . Recurring topics are politics, social criticism and self-reflection.

Both the intro and the outro contain excerpts from speeches by Rudi Dutschke , which were accompanied by music. The same is the case with the elitist interlude , which forms a kind of intro to the piece Elitist . The prison revolt is also concluded with a contribution from the student leader who died in 1979. Albino had already used this stylistic device on his first two solo albums.

What is safe contains self-reflections that are mixed up with criticism of politics and the media. In close Nesti tells of a car accident he had survived against all expectations and his life have since significantly influenced. This is how he discovered his closeness to God, which then helped him a lot when doing his community service. Use contributes the background vocals.

Elitist contains criticism of the local work culture, which barely gives you the opportunity to develop, which in the end results in neglect for the individual. The role of money has also been criticized, as companies in particular only have profits as their goal. Black or white accounts for black and white thinking, people's striving for conflict is also dealt with in the text. Prison revolt uses a metaphor according to which the rebellion against psychological bondage is represented as revolt. In Echolon , the rappers show their displeasure with what they consider to be an increasing surveillance state and draw comparisons to George Orwell's novel 1984 .

Revolver criticizes the use of firearms and shows the resulting negative consequences. Victims such as John F. Kennedy , Martin Luther King , Jitzchak Rabin and Rudi Dutschke are also mentioned in the text.
