Eckehard Pietzsch (born October 14, 1939 in Blumberg , North Saxony) is a former volleyball player from the GDR .
Pietzsch began playing volleyball in Torgau in 1954. From 1958 he played for the SC Rotation Leipzig , from 1963 the club acted as SC Leipzig . Pietzsch won twelve championship titles with the two clubs.
1959 Eckehard Pietzsch made his debut in the junior national team of the GDR, in which he came on a total of twelve missions. From 1964 Pietzsch played in the GDR national team and completed 227 international matches by 1972. From 1966 Pietzsch achieved a place among the best four teams in all major tournaments with the GDR selection until 1972. In 1969 he won the Volleyball World Cup and the following year he was there when the GDR team won the title at the 1970 World Cup in Bulgaria. In the final, Pietzsch was replaced in the fifth set at 5:13 by Wolfgang Weise , who started the race to catch up by ten points in a row with a few successful passes. After a fourth place at the European Championships in 1971 , the GDR team reached the final at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and received the silver medal after the final defeat against the Japanese team .
Eckehard Pietzsch first learned to be a concrete worker, then a civil engineer and finally a sports teacher. After his career he worked as a volleyball coach and sports teacher. After the fall of the Berlin Wall he was first an employee and then an independent manager of a retail business until he retired in 2002.
