Eckhard Alt

Eckhard U. Alt (born November 9, 1949 in Pforzheim ) is a German doctor, scientist, inventor, author and entrepreneur. Eckhard Alt has made a particular contribution to cardiology and stem cell research .

Life

After studying in Heidelberg , Graz and Rhode Island, Alt passed his medical state examination in Heidelberg in 1974 as the best of his year. He completed his training as an internist, intensive care physician and cardiologist at the Rechts der Isar Clinic of the Technical University of Munich . He is a specialist in internal medicine , cardiology and intensive care medicine and received his habilitation at the Technical University of Munich in 1984.

Alt was a professor of medicine at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas at Houston . He is a member of the Medical Faculty of the Technical University in Munich, Professor of Medicine, Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of Cardiovascular Research at Tulane University in New Orleans and holds the Todd and Linda Broin Chair of the Sanford Health Medical Care Network in South Dakota . Alt is a co-founder of the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society (ECAS) and was President of the International Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology Society (ICPES) for eight years.

Methods for stem cell therapy have been developed in Alt's research laboratories in Houston, Munich and New Orleans. He made inventions in the fields of stem cell therapy, electrophysiology and interventional cardiology and holds around 650 patents on key technologies that are used, for example, in pacemakers. Alt is the author of scientific publications and a member of the editorial and review boards of medical and scientific journals .

Several company foundations go back to Alt. This includes InFlow Dynamics, a medical technology company that developed and sold catheters and stents for interventional cardiology, among other things . InFlow Dynamics was acquired by Boston Scientific in 2002 . In 2006, medical technology company InGeneron emerged from research at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Alt is Chairman of the Board of this company, which is primarily concerned with the production of adult stem cells for autologous use in humans and animals. He is also the founder and chairman of the supervisory board of the Isar Clinic in Munich, which was opened in 2008 under the name Isar Medicine Center.

Alt is involved in charitable organizations and projects. In addition to several foundations he founded to promote scientific research and education, he actively supports development projects and other international charitable projects. In Tanzania he supports the Dodoma Christian Medical Center in Dodoma and the Mamma Clementina girls' school in Moshi .
