Career

Kreutzer already played in the youth teams of FC Vorwärts. From 1972 to 1974 he was used 38 times in the GDR junior team , only 5 players came on more appearances. On June 10, 1973, he took part with the U-18s in the final of the UEFA youth tournament, but lost to England 3-2 after extra time. Despite his height of 1.79 meters, which is relatively small for a goalkeeper, Kreutzer was considered one of the greatest goalkeeping talents in the GDR.

Since 1974 Kreutzer was part of the league team. On September 18, 1974, he came on as a substitute for the injured Rolf-Dieter Kahnt in the 15th minute of the UEFA Cup home game against Juventus Turin - without having previously played a competitive match in the men's area - and with numerous saves he made it 2-1 -Win Frankfurt at. From this game on, Kreutzer was a regular goalkeeper. In 1977 he lost his regular place to Karl-Heinz Wienhold . In 1980/1981 he was again a regular goalkeeper, but was replaced again by Wienhold in the following season. In addition to the European Cup games and two, however, lost finals in the FDGB Cup, the runner-up title in 1982/83 was his greatest success. Kreutzer played a total of 97 league and 5 UEFA Cup games.

On September 25, 1982 Kreutzer was pelted with a stone by a spectator and injured during the league game against Union Berlin. This was his last league game. After this season, Kreutzer ended his active career and began studying sports at the DHfK Leipzig, which he completed in 1987. Then he was a junior coach at FCV until 1991. After he lost his carrier, the NVA , due to the fall of the Wall , he retrained from 1992 to 1994 as a masseur and medical lifeguard . He then worked as a physiotherapist at Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl .

Further career

As a trainer, he was in charge of Blau-Weiß Briesen from 1996 to 1998 and the EFC Stahl in 2005 . Most of the time, however, he was employed as a masseur at the EFC.

Kreutzer died of a serious illness at the age of 59.
