Edwin Branford "Eddie" Edwards (born May 22, 1891 in New Orleans , † April 9, 1963 in New York City ) was an American trombonist of old-time jazz .

Live and act

Edwards, son of a merchant, learned the violin and trombone. He first played in cinema orchestras and theaters as well as in Braun's Naval and Military Band . In 1914 he performed with Ernest Giardina before joining Papa Jack Laine's ragtime band . In 1916 he went to Chicago with Alcide Nunez and Johnny Stein , where he founded the Original Dixieland Jass Band with Nick LaRocca . He was involved in their first successes and recordings before he was drafted into military service in the summer of 1918. He then put together a band in 1919 that included Sharkey Bonano and Johnny Stein. Then he played with Jimmy Durante and again in the original Dixieland jazz band. He led his own orchestras ( The Southerners , Silver Slipper Orchestra ). In 1943 and 1944 he went on tour with Catherine Dunham and was most recently active with his sextet in New York.
