Ede Horn (actually Ignacz Einhorn ; born September 25, 1825 in Waag-Neustadtl , Neutra county ; † November 2, 1875 ) was a Hungarian economist and politician.
Life
Horn was born to Jewish parents and entered a journalistic career at an early age, especially as an advocate of the emancipation of Jews , to which his first work: On the Jewish Question in Hungary ( Ofen 1847) was dedicated. After he founded the weekly Der Hungarian Israelit in 1848 as an organ of the Jewish-religious reform movement, he joined the Hungarian uprising in 1848-49 and, after its suppression, went to Leipzig in 1850 and in 1851 to Brussels. Two works emerged from his studies of Belgian conditions: Statistical Painting of the Kingdom of Belgium (Dessau 1853) and Demographic Studies from Belgium (Leipzig 1854). As a correspondent for German newspapers, he went to the Paris World Exhibition in 1855 , where he got a job at the Journal des Débats as editor of the economics section. Returned to Hungary in 1869, he was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 1875, but died soon afterwards.
