The sweet vendace ( Coregonus nilssoni ) is a freshwater fish from the subfamily Coregoninae . It is common in Northern Europe , the Baltic States and Poland .
features
The vendace, like most other vendace , has a herring-like shape and also an adipose fin . It also has a large number of silvery round scales and reaches a maximum length of 38 centimeters.
distribution
The natural range of the noble vendace is in the lakes of the western Baltic , in Sweden , the south of Norway , Denmark and Poland . In many waters of the former East Prussia it is now widespread due to stocking measures.
Way of life and reproduction
The whitefish lives pelagic and feeds primarily on zooplankton . It spawns in winter, from November to March, on the banks of the lakes in the open water and does not go deeper than 10 meters.
Use and endangerment
The vendace is valued as a food fish . It is listed in the IUCN Red List under "Least Concern".
