Edgar Franzmann (born September 21, 1948 in Krefeld ) is a German writer and journalist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Franzmann studied German , philosophy and sociology at the University of Cologne . During his studies he began his journalistic activity in 1968 - initially as a freelancer for the NRZ and the Kölner Express , where he received his first editor's contract in 1971 and worked in the local and sports departments.

In the middle of 1973 Franzmann became editor of the Sonntag-Express, whose editorial management he took over at the end of the 1970s. From 1989 to 1995 he was head of the culture department there. In 1996 he switched to DuMont Neue Medien and became the founder and editor-in-chief of the online editions of Express, Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and Kölnische Rundschau . From the beginning of 2000 until reaching the age limit at the end of November 2013, Franzmann was editor-in-chief of the internet portal koeln.de , which is published by NetCologne on behalf of the city of Cologne.

After some experience as a non-fiction author, Franzmann began writing fiction in 2005 . In 2009, his first crime novel, Mio Allee, appeared as a Cologne crime thriller . Franzmann's novels are set in a journalistic environment. His hero Georg Rubin is the chief reporter for the fictional tabloid "Blitz".

Franzmann is a member of the Syndikat , the association of German-speaking crime authors. From April 2012 to May 2014 he was managing spokesman for the syndicate. He is co-founder of the Cologne crime festival Crime Cologne.
