Edgar Geenen
Edgar Geenen (born August 21, 1954 in Goch , † September 28, 2007 in Munich ) was a German football official .
Life
After graduating from high school in Goch, Geenen studied sports science at the University of Münster . He began his professional career in the office of the former Bundesliga club KFC Uerdingen 05 (until 1995 still FC Bayer Uerdingen), where he succeeded Felix Magath as managing director for six years. In September 1997, President Karl-Heinz Wildmoser brought him to TSV 1860 Munich as sports director . After Geenen had started a relationship with Angela Häßler, the wife of the then "Löwen" player Thomas Häßler , he was released early in February 2000. His successor as sports director was Dirk Dufner .
A few days later, the president of 1. FC Nürnberg , Michael A. Roth , announced Geenen's commitment. Geenen started his work as a manager and consultant straight away, although his contract was officially only valid from July 1, 2000. In 2001 Geenen made a statement in which he said some Nuremberg players a. a. with “dirt”, “scrap”, “rubbish” and they were titled “like leprosy”, and he would like to “hit some in the face” for a nationwide sensation. Roth initially held on to Geenen, who, however, had to vacate his job shortly after the then coach Klaus Augenthaler was dismissed in May 2003, but was hired again on July 1, 2003. But just a fortnight later, on July 15, 2003, Geenen was fired again - this time for good. In June 2004, Roth and Geenen met again at the Nuremberg Labor Court. Geenen demanded a severance payment of 700,000 euros, which Roth refused. At the beginning of August 2004 it was finally agreed to pay 400,000 euros.
Since then Geenen has worked as a freelance management consultant in Munich and Düsseldorf. In October 2005 he negotiated with the regional league team Fortuna Düsseldorf about a job as a manager in the field of marketing . Since the financially weak traditional club was unable to pay Geenen's salary, Fortuna's board member Hermann Tecklenburg wanted to step in privately. However, no contract was concluded because it was not possible to agree on the exact terms of the contract.
Geenen was found hanged on September 29, 2007 in his home in the Solln district of Munich . After a forensic medical examination, he was buried on October 8, 2007 in Krefeld .
