Edgar Jannott

Edgar Jannott (born November 17, 1934 in Gotha ) is the former CEO of Victoria Versicherungs AG and ERGO Versicherungsgruppe AG.

Life

After his childhood in Gotha, Thuringia, and his Abitur, the family moved to Göttingen in 1948. There and in Tübingen, Jannott began studying law in 1956, which he obtained in 1961 with his doctorate. jur. completed. During his student years in Göttingen he was active in the fraternity of that time, today's Corps Frisia . As early as 1964, after successfully passing the assessor's examination, he joined Victoria as assistant to the board. After that, Jannott's career took off.

From 1971 he was a member of the board of the Victoria Life division and Victoria Fire and was responsible for the sales department.

In 1983 he was appointed CEO and General Manager of the Victoria Companies. In the following years, he helped shape the final settlement of the company's headquarters in Düsseldorf (1986/87), the restructuring of Victoria into a holding company (1989), the focus on international business and the new beginning in the GDR from 1989. In 1997, Victoria, DKV , Hamburg-Mannheimer and DAS merged to form the ERGO insurance group, with Munich reinsurance company as the main shareholder (now 100%). Jannott is assigned an important role in finding the name of the ERGO Group. Since then he has held the post of Chairman of the Board of Management of ERGO as well as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of various subsidiaries from 1998 and left in 1999 to take his retirement. Jannott continues to be associated with the company as an honorary board member. In 2006 he was given honorary citizenship by Gotha. Jannott is also a co-founder and member of the advisory board of the Gothaer Kulturstiftung. Years ago, he and his wife Ingrid donated a capital to the Gotha Cultural Foundation, the proceeds of which can be used to award a scholarship for researching the city's history.

In 2015, he was honored with the Great Ring of Honor of the City of Düsseldorf for his great commitment in business for the Düsseldorf location and culture. He was involved in the Board of Trustees of Friends and Patrons of the Tonhalle and in the Friends of the Hetjens Museum in Düsseldorf.

Personal

Edgar Jannott has been married since 1960 and has three children. His brother Horst was general director of Munich Re, his father Kurt Jannott a member of the board of directors at Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherungs AG .
