Kurt Jannott (born November 1, 1887 in Stettin ; † January 30, 1968 ) in Göttingen was a German insurance manager. Jannott was co-founder and CEO of Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherungs AG, founded by Gothaer Lebensversicherungsbank in 1924, from 1923 to 1957 and a member of the supervisory board from 1962 to 1968. Jannott developed regulations for the protection of road traffic victims and was thus a pioneer in motor vehicle liability insurance .

Kurt Jannott was born in Stettin into a merchant family. After attending secondary school, he went into the insurance industry . From Stettin via Cologne he came to Berlin after a brief military service , where he managed the HUK divisions at Hohenzollern Insurance. In 1922 he became a deputy board member for the HUK divisions at Friedrich Wilhelm Versicherung .

On February 6, 1946, Gothaer Allgemeine received an order from the Red Army to vacate its administrative building in Gotha . On December 18, 1945, the general meeting decided to move the company's headquarters from Gotha to Göttingen; this was entered on March 29, 1946 in the Göttingen commercial register.

The insurance industry owes the ideas and suggestions of Kurt Jannott among others:

  • the introduction of an index clause in HUK insurance in 1922 with sliding sums insured;
  • ensuring the rights of the injured third party by introducing additional conditions for motor vehicle liability insurance;
  • the international (green) insurance card for trips abroad;
  • the reimbursement of contributions based on an obligation in accordance with the articles of association, which was not yet common in stock corporations;
  • the introduction of collective agreements / large-scale agreements for specific target groups and associations.

Jannott's second son Horst (1928–1993) was CEO of Munich Re , his third son Edgar (* 1934) became CEO of Victoria in 1983 , later of the ERGO insurance group .

The Gotha honorary citizen Edgar Jannott spoke in the "German Insurance Museum Ernst Wilhelm Arnoldi" at the opening of a new showcase dedicated to his father Kurt Jannott.
