Edgar Johan Kuusik (born February 10 . Jul / 22. February  1888 greg. On the estate Pikajärve, rural community Valgjärve , Livonia , † 3. August 1974 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian architect.

Life

Edgar Johan Kuusik was born the son of a land manager. From 1906 to 1914 he studied architecture at the Polytechnic Institute in Riga, Livonia . From 1918 to 1920 he took part in the Estonian War of Independence against Soviet Russia . From 1920 he was mainly active as a freelance interior designer and architect in Estonia . In 1921 he was one of the initiators of the Estonian Architects' Association ( Eesti Arhitektide Ühing ).

From 1944 to 1950 Kuusik held the Chair of Interior Design at the State Institute of Applied Arts in Tallinn, after which he taught architecture at the Estonian State Art Institute (ERKI). From 1946 he carried the title of professor. From 1950 to 1952 he was excluded from the Estonian SSR Architects' Association for political reasons , but was subsequently rehabilitated.

In 1968 Kuusik was awarded the title of "Honored Architect of the Estonian SSR".

Private life

Edgar Juhan Kuusik married in 1931. His daughter Livia was born three years later. Kuusik is now buried in the Tallinn Forest Cemetery.
