Edgar Michalowski
Edgar Michalowski (born January 30, 1950 in Kammin ) is a former German badminton player . Due to a mistake by a registrar, the surnames of him and his twin brother Erfried were spelled differently until the fall of the Berlin Wall. After the fall of the Wall, the Michalowsky family were able to find each other again by name - the surnames were standardized on a final Ypsilon. Edgar's wife Angela is also a successful former badminton player. She is the sister of Claus Cassens and the sister-in-law of Monika Cassens . Ilona Michalowsky , Norbert Michalowsky , Lothar Michalowsky , Katja Michalowsky and Petra Michalowsky also ensured sporting success for the extended Michalowsky family .
With 26 GDR individual and 19 GDR team titles, Edgar Michalowski is one of the most successful East German badminton players ever. With 55 appearances in the GDR national team (29 wins / 26 defeats), he made the most international matches in the history of the GDR after Monika Cassens .
Sports highlights after the fall of the Wall were numerous German championships in the age groups, the 2006 European championship title in the men's doubles in the O55 age group and the 2003 world championship in Sofia in the O50 men's doubles (both at the side of his brother Erfried).
In the 2007/08 season he played for BSV Einheit Greifswald in the Oberliga Nord A. At the 2008 European Championships in Punta Umbria, Spain, he and his brother Erfried Michalowsky won the silver medal in men's doubles O55. In the 2008/09 season he played for SG GSV / BSV unit Greifswald in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league . At the World Championships for Age Groups in 2009 in Punta Umbria, he was able to record another great success by winning the bronze medal in the men's doubles O55.
