Erfried Michalowsky
Erfried Michalowsky (born January 30, 1950 in Kammin ) is a former German badminton player . Due to a mistake by a registrar, the last names of him and his twin brother Edgar were spelled differently until the fall of the Berlin Wall. After the fall of the Wall, the Michalowsk (i) y family were able to find each other again in terms of their names - the surnames were unified to a final Ypsilon. Ilona Michalowsky , Norbert Michalowsky , Lothar Michalowsky , Katja Michalowsky , Angela Michalowski and Petra Michalowsky also ensured sporting success for the extended Michalowsky family .
With 23 GDR individual and 19 GDR team titles, Erfried Michalowsky is one of the most successful East German badminton players at all, but has 3 fewer individual titles than his twin brother. He played a total of 39 times for the GDR team and celebrated 29 victories.
Sports highlights after the fall of the Wall were numerous German championships in the age groups, the 2006 European championship title in the men's doubles in the O55 age group and the 2003 world championships in Sofia in the O50 men's doubles (both at the side of his brother Edgar). At the 2008 European Championships in Punta Umbria, Spain, he and his brother Edgar won the silver medal in the men's O55 doubles. He is still active in the teams of the BSV Einheit Greifswald.
