Edgar Raymond Kiess
Edgar Raymond Kiess (born August 26, 1875 in Warrensville , Lycoming County , Pennsylvania , † July 20, 1930 in Eagles Mere , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1930 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Edgar Kiess attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1892 the Lycoming County Normal School in Muncy . For the next two years he taught himself as a teacher. From 1894 he worked in Hughesville in the newspaper business. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1904 and 1910 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . From 1910 he was doing business in Williamsport . From 1912 until his death he was a curator of the Pennsylvania State College .
In the 1912 congressional elections , Kiess was elected to the 15th constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Democrat William Bauchop Wilson on March 4, 1913 . After eight re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on July 20, 1930 . From 1923 he represented there as the successor of Isaac Clinton Cline the 16th district of his state. From 1925 Kiess was chairman of the Committee on Insular Affairs . During his time as a member of parliament, the First World War and the beginning of the global economic crisis fell in late 1929. In addition, the 16th , 17th , 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified during his time in Congress .
