Edgar Siegele

Edgar Siegele (born August 28, 1929 in Arzl im Pitztal , Tyrol ; † October 13, 2015 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Edgar Siegele first attended elementary school in Arzl from 1936 to 1940 , and later from 1940 to 1942 the secondary school in Imst . In 1943 he moved from this to the grammar school , also located in Imst. He attended this until 1950 and passed the Matura at the Federal Commercial Academy in the following year . He then studied economics at the University of Innsbruck until 1954 . In 1956 he opened his own hotel in Arzl im Pitztal, which he ran until 1987. In 1985 he was awarded the title of Commercial Councilor.

Siegele's political career began in 1968 when he moved into the council of Arzl im Pitztal for the ÖVP . In 1971 he was elected Vice Mayor; another two years later, in 1973, he was sworn in as mayor of his home parish. He worked in this role for 21 years until 1994.

In March 1987 Siegele became a member of the Federal Council in Vienna . He was a member of this until April 1989.

Within his party, the ÖVP, Siegele was local chairman of the Arzl im Pitztal economic union (1968 to 1998), district chairman of the Imst economic union (1978 to 1991), and deputy chairman of the Tyrolean economic union (1981 to 1988).

On October 13, 2015 Siegele died after a long and serious illness at the age of 86 in his hometown, in whose cemetery he was also buried.
