Edith Schiller

Edith Schiller (born February 19, 1934 ; † June 28, 2020 ) was a German athlete who - starting for the Federal Republic of Germany - appeared as an 800-meter runner in the second half of the 1950s .

She started for Grün-Weiß Paderborn until 1954 , then for ASV Cologne until 1960 and then moved to the Police SV Cologne .

Edith Schiller's greatest successes were winning the title at the German Championships over 800 meters in 1955, and on her special course she was third in a row (1956, 1957, 1958 and 1959) and vice-champion in 1961. In cross-country she was three times German champion (1957, 1959 and 1961), twice runner-up (1958, 1962), once third (1960) and twice won the team competition with ASV Köln (1958, 1959).

In 1958 she took part in the European Championships in Stockholm with Ariane Döser . Both athletes reached the finals. Ariane Döser came in fourth in 2: 08.2 minutes and Edith Schiller in sixth in 2: 10.2 minutes.

In 1959 she became German indoor champion over 800 m.

In the same year she took part in the Universiade in Turin , where she won the silver medal in 2: 11.3 minutes behind the French Nicole Gouilleux, who was victorious by two tenths . Two years later she took fourth place at the Universiade in 2: 14.2 minutes.
