Edmond Dune

Edmond Dune (born March 2, 1914 in Athem , Belgium as Edmond Hermann , † January 25, 1988 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourgish author , poet and dramaturge who wrote his works in French.

Life

Edmond Dune was born in 1914 to a Luxembourgish father, Paul Hermann, and a Belgian mother, Louise Wittamer. His parents died of tuberculosis when he was two years old. After graduating from a high religious school in Arlon , he studied agronomy at the Universities of Nancy and Leuven . In 1935, he became a Luxembourg national. Shortly before the outbreak of World War II , he enrolled in the French Foreign Legion in 1938 under the pseudonym Hugues Dardenne , since he pretended to be Belgian . During the Battle of Tunisia he was wounded on March 9, 1943 near Bir Halima, about 20 km south of Tunis , and received the Croix de guerre as an award. He then left the Foreign Legion and joined the 1st Belgian Infantry Brigade ( Brigade Piron ) within the British Army until the end of the war . After the war, Edmond Dune returned to Luxembourg, where he worked as a journalist for Radio Luxembourg (today: RTL) until he retired in 1979. In 1947 he married Margot Gengler, with whom he had four daughters, Marie-Louise, Jeanne, Leatitia and Francoise.

Services

Edmond Dune worked in various fields. He published numerous poems and was also known as a dramaturge, especially through his play Les Taupes ("The Moles") from 1955, which was performed in 1957 at the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier in Paris . Other plays included Les Tigres (1966) and Le Puits de Fuentés (1974) at the Théâtre Municipal d'Esch-sur-Alzette. He was also the author of essays and prose and translator of French texts into German, English and Italian as well as foreign language texts into French. He also frequently published articles in literary magazines such as Critique or La Quinzaine littéraire .
