Edmund Hess
Adolf Edmund Hess (born February 17, 1843 in Marburg ; † December 24, 1903 there ) was a German mathematician who dealt with polytopes .
Life
As the son of the pharmacist Christian Hess , Hess graduated from high school in Marburg in 1860. As a student at the Philipps University of Marburg , he became active in the Corps Teutonia Marburg . As an inactive , he moved to the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1864 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. He completed his habilitation two years later as an assistant at the Physics Institute . In 1879 he was appointed associate professor and in 1892 full professor .
He published a number of papers on regular polytopes and discovered several new ones. He listed the 10 regular star bodies . New ones among them were, among other things, the penetration of ten tetrahedra , penetration of five tetrahedra , penetration of five cubes , penetration of five octahedra . He published the Krystallometrie by Johann Friedrich Christian Hessel in 1897 for Ostwald's classic of the exact sciences .
He was married to Luise born in 1875 . Wagner from Marburg. He had two children with her.
